The purpose of the story is to show a teenage girls dilemma after getting drunk at a party. The poet contrasts thegirls ideas of cope and sex with reality. This is done effectively byusing techniques such as similes and onlyiteration. The poem shows howyoung teenage girls can be easily seduced under the influence ofalcohol. The Seduction too shows how young girls can be manipulatedby the media.McAuley presents the range for the seduction of the girl as harsh by use of language and imagery. The setting is described usingphrases such as far from the blind windows of the hover blocks. Thewords tower blocks gives the setting a threatening atmosphere. Alsothe words blind windows adds mystery to th e setting. This is becausethe two words are contrasting. The word blind is usually associatedwith visionless. While windows are usually see-through. TheSeduction is set in the quiet bricks of Birkenhead suggesting thatplace that he takes her to is remote. Far past the silver stream oftraffic through the city this is implies that they were distant fromthe busy city leaving them isolated this makes the girl vulnerable.A lot of the language used in The Seduction is symbolic. So shefollowed him there all high white shoes is an example of symbolicpoetry. The shoes are described as white to present a symbol ofpurity, which is a major(ip) theme in the poem. Towards the... ... Mistress is toshow the effects of a seduction. The Seduction focuses on a teenageseduction whereas To His Coy Mistress focuses on a more maturedseduction. McAuleys poem The Seduction is critical of teenagemagazines. McAuley shows a disliking attitude towards the contents ofteenage magazines. This may be because she is against the way love andromance is presented these types of magazines. McAuley is alsocritical of societys attitude towards teenage pregnancy. She exploreshow things like anorexia and drugs amongst teenagers are accepted bysociety and how teenage pregnancy is not. McAuley also criticizesprejudice and stereotyping in the society. I enjoyed reading both TheSeduction and To His Coy Mistress. I preferred Eileen McAuleysThe Seduction because it has a more important message, also becauseit is directed at my age group.

Walt Whitmans Influence on Germany :: Walt Whitman Germany Poetry Poets Essays

Walt Whitmans Influence on GermanyWalt Whitman (1819-1892) is considered to be one of the greatest American poets of the nineteenth century. opus Edgar Allan Poe may have been more widely read, Whitman had more international writers actively respond to him and his poetry than any other American poet. A century after his death, writers around the world are still in dialogue with him, pondering the questions he posed, arguing with him and elaborating on his insights. People have been attracted to Whitman for many reasons. For his time he was truly unconventional and introduced the modern lyric with his autobiographical collection of prose poems called Leaves of Grass. The impact Whitman has, however, exceeds technical innovation it lies in his universal appeal.Walt Whitman is many things to many people. The poet once remarked about the various photographs of himself he used to come upon, I meet new Walt Whitmans every day. There are a dozen of me afloat. perhaps even more manifold t han the physical images of the author are the ways in which he has been perceived. The purpose of this paper is to examine how Walt Whitmans poetry influenced Germany. How the poet was received, which aspects of Whitmans philosophy most attracted Germans, ultimately has to do with the Zeitgeist, the intellectual climate of the day.For numerous authors Whitman has primarily been a poet of democracy and political questions have often been at the center of the international responses to Whitman. While this aspect of his poetry has inspired people from states such as the former Soviet Union and China, it has not been the only theme to spellbind his admirers. Authors from India, for example, have been suitable to identify with Whitman on a spiritual plane, seeing in him a Hindu vision. Clearly the way in which people relate to the poet has much to do with what is essential and pertinent to their own lives.Whitmans Influence For Whitmans contemporaries the most obvious deviation from the norm was his prose style. Whitman does not submit his thoughts to metered rhyme, yet they are rhythmic, just not in the traditional sense of a stanza. His free verse forms have been likened to the ebb and flow of the ocean tides, which inspired him throughout his life. The innovation of Whitmans poetry, however, exceeds structure and convention and those who have admired his poetry have also been intrigued by its content.

marketing research :: essays research papers

In an article written by Laura Schneider, titled Customer Relationships Are Key to Your merchandising Strategy July 2003, she states that she could show a business how to increase sales by 50% without increasing a marketing budget. Her research indicates businesses have inactive customers that the owners mean will stay with the company, without maintaining or trying to grow in the relationship. Business owners often wonder wherefore havent they heard from a customer or if they left, why did they leave? There are many reasons a customer or client may leave, but the ones heard most often areThey mat up prices were too high or unfair. They had an unresolved complaint. They took a competitors offer. They left because they felt the business didnt care. The last two options make up the majority of why a client or customer will no longer use a service or a product. Laura believes this makes sense because customers often purchase a service or product because they have developed a relatio nship with the company, or they owned another product, or a friend or yoke referred them to you. When given with the aforementioned information she ponders the reasons why businesses spend 80% of their marketing dollars going after new customers and clients rather than nurturing, retaining, and maintaining the customer relationships they already have? She suggests in the first place spending time and money going after new customers and clients that a business does not have a relationship to consider the following statistics borrow customers spend 33% more than new customers. Referrals among repeat customers are 107% greater than non-customers. It costs six times more to trade something to a prospect than to sell that same thing to a customer. Laura believes the marketing dollar will go further if it is used to build, nurture, and develop current customer relationships. Building these relationships means treating customers and clients as if they are strategic partners and showing them that they are appreciated. Its important to try to satisfy them with the right products and services, supported by the right promotion and making it available at the right time and location. Customers can easily detect indifference and insincerity and they simply will not tolerate it. Long-term client and customer committedness is a long-term challenge that you must strive for every day and with every transaction no matter how big or small. While a growing business needs to constantly capture new customers, the focus and priority should be on pleasing the existing customer base.
